Tectonic- the relationship between craft and architecture.
We believe that the building components should speak to you, they should tell you something about the building and how the design came to be. We do not wish to give the opinion that we are self indulgent arty types but, we do like to express the materiality of the building fabric.
We also like to make virtue out of necessity. A structural padstone can be expressed and therefore becomes a feature, a doorway should be more than a way into a space and a weathervane can express more than just the wind direction, in fact this approach can be rigorously applied throughout.
You may detect a certain modernity in our work in the way elements are juxtaposed. This is achieved not by the use of radical new materials but by the expression of a craft like attitude and the vigour of their geometry.
